The Cèze rises in the Cévennes and flows into the Rhone. Its journey is particularly lively, passing through gorges then over spectacular waterfalls 'Les Sautadtes', a notoriously dangerous spot when the river is in spate. The power of the water has carved the rock into unexpected shapes, a kind of natural architecture marked by canyons, cliffs and deep pots scoured by whirlpools. All this geological violence fails to disturb the relaxed mood of the holiday-makers who swim there and lie in the sun.
